CRAB TRAP CLEAN UP OF THE TEXAS GULF COAST

This annual event is held in Feruary by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Abandoned crab traps are a significant source of capture and mortality for over 20 aquatic species, including blue and stone crabs, fin fish, and shellfish. GCAAZK is proud to participate in this local conservation project, which helped remove ~300 traps from Dickinson Bayou in 2003. Coastwide, over 8000 traps were collected in 2002 and ~3000 were collected in 2003.
